School Of Dispensing Optics History

The Swiss Red Cross, Africa Action/Germany and Westphalian Children’s Village established the School of Dispensing Optics formerly called Optical Technician Training Institute in 2001. The Ministry of Health accepted it on Tuesday 25 November 2008. The School is under the control and management of Ministry of Health.

The school is the only facility in Ghana and among few in Africa, which provides formal training for Optical Technicians. For this reason, there is a high demand for enrolment at the school from both Ghana and other West African countries. Consequently, the school is challenged to ensure that high quality products are prepared, maintained and constantly improved upon. To stand up to this challenge the need to upgrade the School has become imperative.
